It's a building science week on IAQ Radio with two excellent guests from our neighbor to the North. Professor Tang Lee is a Professor of Architecture at the University of Calgary who teaches building science (building enclosure, acoustics), mechanical engineering (HVAC), civil engineering (masonry), environmental health (IAQ), construction management, energy physics (solar) and almost everything else in architecture.
Robert Bean is a registered engineering technologist in the field of building construction engineering. He is an avid student of industrial design (the way things look) and indoor environmental ergonomics (the way things feel). In 2007 Robert was selected as a distinguished
lecturer for the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers speaking on the Human Factor in HVAC, Radiant Based HVAC Systems and Snow Melting
Systems. He is the editor for The Journal of Indoor Environmental Quality and www.healthyheating.com a not for profit web sites on anthropology, architecture and indoor environmental ergonomics.

This is an issue that we have followed closely and we look forward to hearing from the advocate that got the ball rolling and continues to try and make a difference. Bob Baker founded BBJ Environmental and served as its Chairman from 1993 to 2007. Before BBJ Environmental, Baker worked as an executive in both the public and private sector. Bob came to Florida from the University of Texas' prestigious M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he served as Vice President for Administrative Services. Prior to that, he was an executive with Gulf Oil Corporation.
Mr. Baker is an enthusiastic contributor to the industry through several organizations. He is on the board of the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA). He sits on two ASTM Standards committees, four ASHRAE Standards and Technical Committees, and has written numerous papers and articles. He was given the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award in June of 2007 and is a member of the ASHRAE Standards Committee as well as the Code Interaction Subcommittee and Standards Project Liaison Subcommittee. He recently has been appointed to the ASHRAE committee that will be developing criteria for awarding certifications for HVAC System Maintenance Management.

Dr. Shaughnessy received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from The University of Tulsa where he currently serves as the Program Manager for indoor air research, and is the university spokesman on issues related to IAQ and radon. He is a world-renowned expert on IAQ issues. Dr. Shaughnessy has taught and conducted research abroad in locations including China, South Africa and Australia, and is recipient of the 1996 National Trainer of the Year Award.
Dr. Shaughnessy served as the principal adviser to the EPA on development of the IAQ Diagnostics: Hands-On Assessment of Building Ventilation and Pollutant Transport course, and has been developing IAQ courses for the EPA since 1991. He continues to conduct research on IEQ in Schools and student performance. He was also recently a Section Editor for the AIHA Green Book "Recognition, Evaluation and Control of Indoor Molds".
Dr. Shaugnessy and J. David Miller, PhD are Conference Chairs for the April 27-29 "Approaches to Managing Mold in Buildings Conference" sponsored by the University of Tulsa. The conference will be held in Orlando, Florida and will feature a who's who of speakers.

Philip R. Morey received his Ph.D. degree in Biology from Yale University and is certified in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. Dr. Morey has held various teaching positions including Lecturer of Biology at Harvard University and Professor of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University. He has also held a research position (Research Microbiologist; Research Industrial Hygienist) while at The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in the 1980s and was subsequently Director of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)/Microbiology at several consulting companies. Currently, Dr. Morey is Principal Consultant Microbiology at ENVIRON International Corporation. Dr. Morey was one of the panelists for the first consensus mold remediation guideline published by the New York Department of Health in 1993. He was Assistant Editor of the 1999 American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists Bioaerosols: Assessment and Control book. He has written two books: How Trees Grow and Biological Contaminants in Indoor Environments.
