What's happening at the Institute for Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)? We will find out this week when we interview IICRC President Mr. Patrick Winters CAE/IOM. Mr. Winters was hired as IICRC President in August of 2009 and his goal is to lead the organization to excellence in all functional areas. Mr. Winters has over 35 years experience as a nonprofit executive specializing in foundations, institutes, professional societies and trade associations.
IAQ Radio will be exploring the world of not for profit associations in the IAQ, disaster restoration and building science industries for the next few weeks and we are excited about our first interview on the subject with the President of what is probably the most influential association in the disaster restoration industry. In our continuing effort to present all sides of the issues this week we present Attorney David Governo and Dr. Howard Sandler for the defense. Mr. Governo the founding partner of the Governo Law Firm in Boston, Massachusetts and an expert in toxic tort and environmental litigation. Dr Sandler is a physician specializing in Occupational and Environmental Medicine who served as a medical officer with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH, CDC, USPHS), a consultant to the U.S. OSHA, and U.S. EPA and an invited presenter on occupational health causation for the National Academy of Sciences. He has also testified on request before the U.S. Congress and state legislatures on occupational health issues including microbials.

Melinda Ballard serves as President, Policyholders of America (POA), a non-profit organization providing free claims assistance to homeowners who've filed claims covered by their homeowner's policies. More than 2 million people have joined POA since its formation in 2000. Dr. Shoemaker is the Corresponding author for the POA's "Research Committee Report on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome Caused by Exposure to the Interior Environment of Water-Damaged Buildings". This report is presents the Mold Research Committees position statement on the current state of the science regarding human health effects acquired following exposure to the multiple microbes and microbial contaminants and their metabolites found in the interior environment of water-damaged buildings. This dynamic duo has joined forces to advance the understanding of health effects caused by exposure to water damaged buildings. Is the industry approach to IAQ, mold and Green Buildings science-based?
This week on IAQ Radio we have the return visit of Ed Light, CIH to discuss his thoughts about the title of our show. In addition according to Mr. Light discussions of industrial hygiene and health are generally one-sided and do not consider other opinions on controversial subjects? We will discuss Mr. Lights opinion on these two subjects and time permitting will get his opening thoughts/statements on some debate topics he has proposed for a future IAQ Radio program.
