Jack D. Thrasher was educated in California with a B.S. in zoology/chemistry and a Ph.D. in human anatomy/cell biology from UCLA. He taught human anatomy, histology, physiology, and embryology at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine at Denver and at the UCLA School of Medicine in the 60s and early 70s. He was consulting toxicologist that did testing on the safety and efficacy of medical devices, drugs and cosmetics from the mid 70s through the mid 80s.
Since 1984, he has consulted in Environmental Toxicology, Immunotoxicology and Human Health effects from toxic exposures to private citizens as well as practicing physicians. He has collaborated in many scientific peer reviewed papers on formaldehyde, mold and mycotoxins, hydrogen sulfide, and insecticides. He is an author or co-author on the adverse health effects (neurological and immunological) in humans following exposure to damp indoor spaces. His most recent manuscript published in Toxicology and Industrial Health is titled "The biocontaminants and complexity of damp indoor spaces: more than meets the eyes". This manuscript reviews molds, gram negative and positive bacteria, mycotoxins, endotoxins, 1-3-beta glucans, galactomannans, particulates and MVOCs present in damp indoor spaces. All of these biocontaminants impinge upon occupants affecting various organ systems and more likely than not have synergistic toxic actions.
Dr. Thrashers areas of expertise include: Formaldehyde in trailers and Mobile Homes; organophosphate pesticides, chlorinated pesticides; herbicides, pyrethroids, organic solvents including chlorinated (TCE, PCE); Indoor air microbial (fungi and bacteria) and their by-products in water damaged homes, public buildings and schools; and hydrogen sulfide. He has testified as an expert witness in many legal cases for plaintiffs and defendants.

Portnoy, M.D., FACCI. is a Past President of the American College of Asthma Allergy and Immunology (ACAAI). He is also professor of pediatrics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, he initiated the ACAAI Conference Online Allergy (COLA) program and chairs the COLA Committee. He chairs the Nominating Committee and co-chairs the Joint Task Force on Practice Parameters and the Joint Task Force to Examine the Future of the Specialty.
Dr. Portnoy is helping to lead the movement to ensure the environmental component of illness gets the attention it deserves. He leads one of the largest, and most active teams of IEQ consultants and allied health professionals, performing home and school health assessments, in the world. He is tirelessly working to help bridge the gap between the indoor environmental investigation/remediation industry and health professionals. This week on IAQ Radio we welcome Forensic Industrial Hygienist, Caoimhin P. Connell. Mr. Connell has been a practicing Industrial Hygienist for 24 years, and he currently serves as the contract Industrial Hygienist for the US National Center for Atmospheric Research. He has performed approximately 1,000 indoor air quality investigations and is a frequent speaker at conferences nationwide. Mr. Connell has some strong opinions and is not afraid to express them. Gary Dietrich, co-founder and president of Citizen Voice, a new nonpartisan movement to involve citizens in the public arena and protect the vulnerable will appear on IAQ Radio this Friday, September 23rd at 12 noon EST. The Citizen Voice's SAFELY OUT project, developed with technical assistance from the Red Cross Sacramento Sierra Chapter, is designed specifically to ensure that the most vulnerable citizens in an area, including the disabled, frail seniors, young children and more are protected during a disaster. Daniel Greenblatt is the founder and president of Envirotech Clean Air, Inc., an HVAC Systems cleaning and restoration and indoor air quality cleaning company in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Mr. Greenblatt has been helping building owners improve indoor air quality and energy efficiency for almost 25 years. He also has a long history of volunteer service to industry associations and currently serves on the Indoor air Quality Association (IAQA) and the Indoor Environmental Standards Organization (IESO) Boards of Directors.
Mr. Greenblatt's company has been involved in some fascinating projects over the years and has learned a lot of lessons along the way. Mold Remediation According To The Standard Of Care: Does It Work; Is It Worth It?
This week on IAQ Radio our guest is Mark McLaughlin, VP of Field Operations for Restore All, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. McLaughlin has an extensive background in disaster restoration, mold remediation emergency management and training. He started as full time firefighter in Cherokee County Georgia and while began working part time in the disaster restoration industry. Afterwards he formed SouthEast Bio-Recovery, a company that offered crime scene cleaning. After several successful years he left public service sold his company and went full time into the disaster restoration field helping to found Restore All, Inc.
Mark recently completed his Certified Mold Professional certification through RIA and as part of the certification process did extensive research while writing a paper on how effective various standards of care are while doing mold remediation. His paper is a comprehensive review of the subject and the findings will be of interest to our listeners.
