David Kahane is founder of Forensic Analytical, a family of laboratory and consulting companies specializing in industrial hygiene, environmental health and safety and the forensic sciences. Mr. Kahane received a B.A. in Physiology and an M.P.H. in Biological and Environmental Health Sciences from U.C. Berkeley. He has been a practicing Certified Industrial Hygienist for the past 18 years.
Mr. Kahane provides technical expertise and litigation support for asbestos, heavy metals, fungal and other IH-related exposure cases. He performs and supports industrial hygiene and indoor air quality investigations for a variety of commercial, industrial, insurance, military school and residential clients. He has performed and is well versed in various analytical methods including optical microscopy, XRF and AAS/ICP. Mr. Kahane is often involved with the statistical evaluation of survey data, and the experimental design for a variety of indoor exposure assessments.
Mr. Kahane is a frequent guest instructor at UC Berkeley teaching on issues related to asbestos, lead and mold classes. He has served on both technical committees and on boards of the AIHA, ASTM, EIA, California Industrial Hygiene Council, as well as for CAL-OSHA.

In addition to being sought after IAQ consultants, Carl Grimes and Don Weekes, CIH, CSP are the outgoing and incoming President of the Indoor Air Quality Association. Carl also serves on the International Society for Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ) Board of Directors. Both gentlemen recently returned from the ISIAQ Healthy Buildings 2012 conference in Australia. Healthy Buildings is a gathering of world renowned researchers and practitioners where the most recent research and news on IAQ issues is the topic. Carl and Don have agreed to join us and fill in listeners on what they learned from attending this event. This week on IAQ Radio we are joined by Cole Stanton, VP Sales at Fiberlock Technologies, Inc and Tim Riley founder of Crime and Death Scene Cleaning of Ipswich, MA. We will be discussing chemistry, chemicals and standards for HVAC cleaning, water damage restoration, mold remediation and bio recovery cleaning. Mr. Stanton was part of the committee that wrote the NADCA position paper on Chemicals in HVAC Systems and is currently on the IICRC S520 Revision committee. He and Mr. Riley both serve on the IICRC S540 "Standard and Reference Guide for Trauma and Crime Scene Biological and Infectious Hazard Clean Up" development committee. The S540 is a new standard devoted to bio recovery issues. Mr. Riley is a veteran Bio Recovery company owner and American Bio Recovery Association (ABRA) instructor. Industrial Hygiene Consulting, Inc. (previously operating as Jacobs Environmental, Inc.) was founded in 1997 by Mr. Bruce Jacobs, who continues on today as President and Principal Consultant. Mr. Jacobs has accumulated 38 years of experience in the environmental and safety & health profession. Mr. Jacobs developed gas chromatographic analytical methods, and validated some of the initial uses of diffusion-based sampling and analytical methods for air contaminants, as a Chemist for the U.S. Army. He also developed industrial hygiene policy documents and standards for the U.S. Army. Additionally, he managed the industrial hygiene program for the Chemical Agent BZ Demilitarization Facility at Pine Bluff Arsenal, AR. Finally he developed the "IAQ Index" as a health-based, easy-to-understand, air quality index that is calculated for various parameters commonly measured during IAQ surveys. (The approach is similar to the EPA's Air Quality Index that has been used historically to communicate the risks posed by common pollutants in the ambient air.)
He has experience as a chemist, toxicologist, industrial hygienist, and environmental manager; and has worked with federal, state, and local governments; construction companies, large and small engineering firms, tunneling contractors, chemical companies, pharmaceutical and flavor companies, health care facilities, schools and universities, manufacturing facilities, heavy industry, land developers, home builders, commercial contractors, legal firms, and individual homeowners. Since 1978, Dan Stradford has been the chief executive officer of Action Duct Cleaning Company, based in the Los Angeles area. Action Duct has serviced clients in more than 15 states across the U.S. They service city, county, state, and federal clients, Fortune 500 companies, and a large residential base. Celebrity clients, which they service regularly, have included Tom Cruise, Stephen Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Roseanne Barr, Don Rickles, Buddy Hackett, Los Angeles Dodgers announcer Vin Scully, and many others. He is on the Board of Directors of the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) and has been a NADCA member for 20 years. He has published more than 250 articles and was the chairman of the task force that created NADCA's Position Paper on The Use of Chemical Products in HVAC Systems. He is also the author of the recently-released book, The Men's Code of Honor: 66 Principles That Make a Man.

Harriet Ammann, PhD, DABT is a legend in the IAQ world and our guest for this week. Dr. Ammann is currently Principal, Ammann Toxicology Consulting LLC; & an affiliate associate professor, School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of Washington. Harriet M. Ammann has been a diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology since 1989. Up to 2006 Dr. Ammann was the Senior Toxicologist: Air Quality Program, Washington State Department Ecology and prior to that she served as the Senior Toxicologist: Office of Environmental Health Assessment Services, Washington State Department of Health. Before serving with the State of Washington, Dr. Ammann participated in the U.S. EPA's Hazardous Air Pollutants team that was developing guidance for non-cancer risk assessment.
Dr. Ammann served as vice-chair of the Bioaerosols Committee of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) from 1997-2003. She authored the chapter on Microbial VOCs in the ACGIH book, Bioaerosols, Assessment and Control, and contributed to several other book chapters. She also served as assistant editor to the book. Dr Ammann has co-authored and been a key influence in the development of countless publications widely used today by indoor environmental professionals. Dr. Alice Delia is Laboratory Director at Prism Analytical Technologies, Inc. in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She manages Prism's Data Analysis Group and is the technical lead on all of Prism's air testing products, as well as in the analysis and interpretation of all test data. Dr. Delia received her B.S. in Chemistry from Kalamazoo College, and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from the University of Colorado. She has extensive knowledge of atmospheric processes and their implications for air quality compliance and safety. In addition, she is proficient in the operation of Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS) instruments and performing the chemical profile interpretation of the GS-MS data. During her six-year tenure at Prism, Dr. Delia has been responsible for the development and deployment of several new methodologies for air quality testing in homes. On June 19, 2012, Dr. Delia will be delivering a technical paper she co-authored at the American Industrial Hygiene Association Conference & Expo on the topic of tobacco smoke detection using VOC markers. In a previous position as an Environmental Analyst at ASE, Inc., a subsidiary of Booz-Allen-Hamilton, Dr. Delia wrote and presented several presentations to the DOD Environmental Cleanup Office and to the U.S. Congress.

This week we will focus on fiberglass and indoor air quality issues with environmental engineer Jeff Bradley. Mr. Bradley is an environmental consultant with a MS degree in Environmental Engineering from Southern Methodist Univesity. He is the owner of Indoor Doctor and provides indoor environmental quality consulting for clients in New England. This week we will focus on an IAQ issue that gets little attention when Mr. Bradley discusses IEQ and fiberglass.

Mickey Lee is currently a private consultant providing consulting, training, research and writing services in the fields of property damage restoration, psychrometrics, drying science, mold remediation and structural drying after water intrusions. Mr. Lee retired from the Munters Corp (US) in 2011 after serving in various roles for over 20 years. At various points Mr. Lee was Vice-President --Global Technology & Sustainability for Munters AB - MCS and Global and National Technical & Training Manager for Munters Corp (US). He was responsible for training program development, curriculum writing and course facilitation in addition to managing projects for structural drying and restoration of commercial buildings of every type. He also has extensive experience in application of air treatment technology in restorative drying projects, corrosion-control methods, mold mitigation and humidity control in commercial and industrial facilities while working with Munters Corporation -Moisture Control Services Division.
Recognizing his vast experience in water damage restoration the IICRC asked him to lead the development of their Commercial Drying Specialist certification. This program completed its' full roll-out in 2009 and continues to be a popular offering. Mr. Lee continues to serve as committee chair for the Commercial Drying Specialist Certification program and also serves on the IICRC S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration revision committee.
